Accésit award VI Photography Contest PHOTO BIA organized by the official Basque-Navarrese College of Architects of the Bizkaia delegation.
From the door of his farmhouse in a beautiful valley in the Basque Country, a villager used to watch the sunrise, a landscape of mountains and valleys full of life and beauty. It was a moment of peace and connection with nature. However, now his view is invaded by the gigantic concrete pillars of the new highway under construction. Every day, the sunrise he loved transforms with the appearance of these new elements, altering the landscape forever.
The work, titled "And New Sunrises," reflects the conflict between the necessary industrial development and the visual impact it has on natural environments. It shows how progress and modernization can radically change people's relationship with their surroundings, creating a tension between preserving nature and the demands of progress.
The villager, who once found serenity in the natural beauty of his valley, now faces a future where the concrete pillars stand as monuments to a new era, marking a before and after in his worldview.
Runner-up in the 6th edition of the PHOTO-BIA contest (BIA - Bilbao Bizkaia Architecture) by the Delegation in Bizkaia of the COAVN.
[PHOTO-BIA]: This edition focused on highlighting the diversity of ways of inhabiting the city, understood as a vast territory that includes both urban and rural/natural environments. Photography serves as a medium of representing reality, but it also implies a way of looking and reconstructing the diversity and complexity of the constantly transforming urban reality, as well as the ways of inhabiting and intervening in built spaces. The PHOTO-BIA contest precisely opens to this diversity of perspectives and citizen experiences in relation to the processes of change and transformation of cities, where different ways of living and moving through cities coexist, using facilities and resources, as well as a great disparity of ways of intervening and acting in urban spaces. PHOTO-BIA encourages citizens to explore the complexity of the urban fabric through their photographic works, as well as the diversity of cultures and citizen practices in their daily development.
Very proud to be one of the awardees! Thanks to the BIA - Bilbao Bizkaia Architecture jury for the recognition.
